A Perfect Beginning WST is the premier provider of skills training in the West Sound area dedicated to giving our young adults relevant job skills in the work place. The West Sound Technical Skills Center has provided entry-level skills training to thousands of students from the West Sound region’s eight school districts. The vision of those districts was to create a school, in partnership with business, "to prepare students for higher education and the work force" by offering students the opportunity to be trained in technical career areas too expensive for a single district to fund. West Sound Technical Skills Center Foundation The Foundation was established to promote career and technical training opportunities and educational excellence for students of the Skills Center. The goal is to provide advanced educational opportunities for students by providing resources such as:

Testimonials “My daughter’s choice here at WST will allow her to attend college and work… I would encourage all parents to allow their child to make a choice that supports their goals.” “WST offers a variety of programs and is staffed with dedicated, caring folks.” “As a foundation member, I wish that they had a Skills Center when I was in school, I would have taken Carpentry.” Eric Ruud “As a parent of a Skills Center graduate, I’m a believer!” Connie King, WST parent “ WST is a great place to help prepare students for the future.. Both my son and daughter have taken summer classes there. They enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. WST offers a variety of programs and is staffed with dedicated, caring folks.”- Ted Wheeler, Ship Fitter & Sheet Metal Superintendent, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility. (PSNS & IMF) Letter from Natural Resources student to the teacher Ken Stephens: Ken, My name is Kevin May and I was in your forestry program during the year of 1979/1980. I visited the Skill Center's website and saw that you are still running the Natural Resources Department. I thought that I would take a moment to thank you for the patience that you showed me when I was your student. I was barely surviving at high school at the time and am lucky to have had good teachers. I am now a vertebrate paleontologist and operations manager at the University of Alaska Museum of the North in Fairbanks, Alaska. I have degrees in geology and paleontology and study arctic dinosaurs, specifically fossil footprints. I suspect that studying forestry in the 11th grade gave me an appreciation for and an interest in biology and earth sciences. Also, I learned a lot of useful mapping skills that have served me well during my career of fieldwork.” Thanks again.
