Course Description:
The Academy of Finance program will introduce students to the broad career opportunities in the financial service industry. It will also provide students with industry-related courses of study, while encouraging students to earn internships at leading financial service corporations, obtain employment after graduation and to pursue higher education.

Grading:
A point system will be used to determine each student’s grade.
50% Academic Performance including tests, projects and assignments.
50% 23 Employability Skills including attendance, responsibility, attitude, professionalism and the ability to stay on task.
A - 90 - 100%
B - 80 - 89%
C - 70 - 79%
D - 60 - 69%
F - 0 - 59%
Materials:
Students are required to bring ALL materials to class EVERYDAY.
- Calculator (calculators on cell phones are prohibited)
- Pencils and Erasers
- Accounting Book and Workbook
Expectations:
- Regular Attendance – see STUDENT HANDBOOK attendance policy.
- Punctuality – be in the classroom BEFORE the bell rings with necessary supplies and material.
- Behavior – demonstrating MUTUAL RESPECT for each person in the class is a must!
- Dress Code – participate in the mandatory Professional Dress Day each Thursday.
- Adhere to all guidelines in the West Sound Tech STUDENT HANDBOOK.

Ability to get along with others and work with people. Ability to touch keyboard at 40 WPM.
Length of program:
Program is open entry, which means a student may start at any time depending on space available. Students need at least 1 year for minimum skill development.
Sessions offered:
Session I – 8-10:30 am
Session II – 11:10 am – 1:40 pm
Alternating days for Peninsula, Gig Harbor and South Kitsap or customized as needed.
Equivalency credits available:
English, Math
*Note: Some school districts do not allow Equivalency Credit. Please check with your high school counselor for approval prior to enrolling.

Course Description:
What happens to all that money in a bank or credit union? Enroll in Banking and Finance to gain skills you’ll need to work in financial institutions or financial planning companies. You will have hands-on experience learning to become part of a professional business team.
Emphasis is placed on the skills and attitudes necessary for success in business and college. Students interested in this program should have the ability to keyboard and use a 10-key by touch. Special program features include: cash handling, understanding credit cards and loan applications, stock market simulations, business correspondence, telephone etiquette and entrepreneurial activities. This class will provide qualified students with a 6-8 week paid internship, exposure to current technology and the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school.
