At West Sound Tech, there are 16 career and technical programs to choose from. Each program is listed below with a brief description and a link to a more detailed section which outlines details, requirements and other useful information about these programs. Through each of these programs, our students learn the technical knowledge and skills to either gain them advanced placement in apprenticeships, technical schools, two and four year colleges and universities, or go directly to entry-level employment in a career.

Hospitality and Tourism
 

From transportation and accommodations to tourism systems and services to personal and business travel, students will be taught in the classroom and through work-based learning the necessary skills for a career in this growing industry. Academy of Finance
 

The Academy of Finance program will introduce students to the broad career opportunities in the financial service industry.  It will also provide students with industry-related courses of study, while enabling and encouraging students to earn paid internships at leading financial services corporations, obtain employment after graduation, and pursue higher education. Automotive Technology
 

This two year automotive program is designed to provide practical hands-on training and experience for high school juniors and seniors, who are seriously considering making a career in the automotive service, repair and maintenance industry. Collision Repair Technology
 

The Collision Repair Technology two-year program provides a hands-on approach to learning about basic uni-body frame repair, parts replacement, sanding/stripping/masking painted surfaces, spraying automotive and other finishes, glass replacement and auto detailing. Construction Trades
 

Students in Construction Trades work with today’s technology in a real work setting completing projects in the community. Students learn cost estimating, hand and power tool operation, blueprint reading, building code requirements, site preparation, footing and foundation construction, floor and ceiling construction, walls and partitions, roof frame construction, exterior covering finish and trim, stair construction, basic wiring techniques. Cosmetology
 

Students receive classroom instruction and hands-on training on mannequins and customers using industry standard equipment. In order to work in this industry, students must become licensed which requires training beyond high school to earn the minimum required hours. Early Childhood Educational Assistant
 

Students learn the developmental stages of children from birth to 6 years old. The focus of the learning outcomes are on language development, health, safety & nutrition, discipline techniques, importance of play/creativity, setting up a child-centered environment, curriculum development and lesson planning, documentation and observations. Students gain hands-on experience with infants, toddlers and preschoolers in individual and group settings in the on-campus child development center. Engineering & Design Technology
 

Students study CADD (Computer Aided Drafting and Design) operations on a high-level, industry standard program and create 2 and 3 dimensional drawings of buildings, products and machinery using a variety of CADD programs. Students will have 2 1/2 hours of computer time each day, learn basic to complex drafting skills and standards, understand engineering concepts, and learn to prepare drawings for rendering and animation. Food Service & Culinary Arts
 

The Food Service & Culinary Arts Program is an exciting, interesting, demanding and professional culinary class. This is a 2-year course with 1080 hours of instruction and there is a strong emphasis on Professionalism, Leadership and Employability skills. They will have the opportunity to participate in several specific public events, luncheons and school events, as well as working in our Three Seasons Deli and Restaurant. Natural Resources Technology
 

This program involves out-doors, hands-on field and class training to meet the growing need for technical people to help in managing our natural resources. Class activities include land and stream surveying, plant and animal identification, measuring, monitoring, sampling, mapping streams and wetlands. Skills training also includes tree planting, pruning and thinning, wild land fire fighting, Christmas tree growing, brush picking, trail construction, and computer mapping with Geographical information and Global Positioning Systems. Precision Machining & Manufacturing Technology

A skilled machinist can make parts for everything from your I-Pod to the space shuttle. West Sound Technical Skills Center’s Precision Machining and Manufacturing program will give you the opportunity to gain entry-level skills in the machinist field. This field is one of the highest paying trades in America. This program will give you the needed skills to operate machining tools used in the manufacturing process. Students will develop skills in metalworking specialties and develop a good understanding of how raw materials become the final product. Professional Medical Careers

Students learn basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology/diseases, medical terminology, First Aid and CPR, and basic knowledge and care of the adult patient. Students completing all course work and a 50 hour clinical experience will become a State Licensed Nursing Assistant Certified ready for immediate employment. Public Safety Occupations

The Public Safety Occupations program studies the Law Enforcement, Security, and Fire Service Occupations. Leadership and teamwork are main components of the course of study. Students also learn skills in public speaking, self defense, first aid, effective observation, report writing, rules of evidence, arrest, search and seizure. Students will develop skills in supervision & management of food service establishments preparing themselves for entry level management positions as well as a head start for college. They will learn skills in the management of personnel, food and labor issues, maintenance, and daily operations. Dining room procedures are a main feature of this program. This program will provide an introduction to the field of Sheet Metal Technology. Sheet Metal Technology is a broad career field that encompasses skills such as fabrication, layout and manufacturing, assembling, measuring, and repairing such things as ductwork, metal siding, metal flashings, and kitchen hoods. Working in this field may include: welding, soldering, drawing, riveting and forming metal. We will be learning three types of metal layout; the three types are triangulation, parallel line and radial line development. Welding Technology

Students learn to cut and join metal using gas torch, arc and wire-feed welding equipment as well as repair broken metal parts on machinery, equipment, boats and structures. Students can be prepared to meet industry certification requirements as a certified welder upon successful completion of the program. Students will learn: arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, air carbon arc cutting, plasma arc cutting, oxyfuel gas cutting and welding, and flux-core arc welding.
