Construction Trades Program Info

Students in Construction Trades work with today’s technology in a real work setting completing projects in the community. Students learn cost estimating, hand and power tool operation, blueprint reading, building code requirements, site preparation, footing and foundation construction, floor and ceiling construction, walls and partitions, roof frame construction, exterior covering finish and trim, stair construction and basic wiring techniques. There is a strong emphasis on safety standards and developing leadership skills. Advanced education is available at Bates Technical College’s Carpenter Training Center, Laborer’s Training Center in Kingston, and SCCC.

Helpful attributes and abilities of students:

Good hand/eye coordination. Ability to compute basic math functions. Analytical and problem-solving skills helpful.

Length of program:

Program is open entry, which means a student may start at any time depending on space available. Students need at least 1 year for minimum skill development.

Sessions offered:

Session I – 8 – 10:30 am
Session II – 11:10 am – 1:40 pm
Alternating days for Peninsula, Gig Harbor and South Kitsap or customized as needed.

Equivalency credits available:

Math; P.E.

*Note: Some school districts do not allow Equivalency Credit. Please check with your high school counselor for approval prior to enrolling.

Articulation:

Olympic College - Residential Construction 101, 102, 103 (15 credits each)
Preferred entry to apprenticeship training.
