Introduction
Students receive classroom instruction and hands-on training on mannequins and customers using state-of-the-art industry standard equipment. In order to work in this industry, students must become licensed which requires training beyond high school to earn the minimum required hours. This cosmetology program trains cosmetologists, estheticians, manicurists & barbers.
This program is for highschool seniors only.
Cosmetology
Within this program you will learn various hairstyling techniques including: including wet hairstyling, braids, extensions and wigs and various techniques in haircutting with up to date trends. Students will learn chemical services including permanent waving, chemical relaxing, foiling techniques and full colors. Barbering
In this program you learn skin, scalp and hair analysis, haircutting for men, women and children. Facial hair trimming and shaving are a big part of this industry trade. Techniques of wet and dry hairstyling and the use of styling aids and artificial hair techniques are taught. Students will learn how to fit and style wigs and hairpieces. Nail Technician
In this program all students will become proficient in skills such as manicures, pedicures, determining diseases and disorders of the nails with proper safety and sanitation techniques. The following nail enhancements are taught such as gels, acrylics and fiberglass. Beautiful and unique nail art designs are also taught. Esthetician
Estheticians will learn skin care techniques and will obtain hands on experience and related classroom instruction in proper draping, cleansing the face, facial manipulations, skin diseases and disorders, machine and manual facials and all safety and sanitation precautions. Also taught are temporary removal of hair techniques which includes waxing and tweezing. In addition, you will learn make up techniques including make up application and skin and color analysis, also proper techniques for temporary coloring of facial hair. Instructor Trainee
This program is designed for the licensed professional who would like to become an instructor.
You will receive training in instructional methods which includes lesson planning, student learning principles, classroom management, four step instructional method, and occupational analysis. Course organizational techniques are taught the use of group and sequential learning, testing and evaluating techniques and using teaching aids. Audio-visual aids utilizing a variety of creative and innovative methods of teaching to keep students interested.
About the Teacher: Anna
I have been licensed in the Cosmetology Industry for 35 years. I obtained Instructor licenses in the following, Cosmetology, Barbering, Nail Technician, Estheticians and Instructor Training.
I have been Vocationally Certified since 1975 and a College Instructor since 1992. I love the Cosmetology profession and always enjoy the success of each student’s progress as they advance through their careers.

Helpful attributes and abilities of student:
Enjoy people, good communication skills.
Ability to work on feet for long periods. Basic math and science skills helpful.
Prerequisites:
Senior status at sending school and pass the Cosmetology assessment test available at WST.
Length of program:
Program is open entry, which means a student may start at any time depending on space available. Students need at least 1 year for minimum skill development.
Sessions offered:
Session I – 8-10:30 am
Session II – 11:10 am – 1:40 pm
Alternating days for Peninsula, Gig Harbor and South Kitsap or customized as needed.
Equivalency credits available:
Art, English, Math, Science, Health
*Note: Some school districts do not allow Equivalency Credit. Please check with your high school counselor for approval prior to enrolling.
Articulation:
Olympic College - 39 college credits, 14 classes, 660 hours (credits transfer to any community college)

Course Description:

Cosmetologists - (1800 hours) learn all facets of nail and hair care.
Esthetician - (600 hours) specialize in skin care/treatment.
Manicurists - (600 hours) specialize in maintenance and grooming of nails.
Barbers - (1000 hours) learn clipper cuts, mustache and beard trims, latest styling for men’s hair cuts. Related careers:
