Sheet Metal Technology Program Info

1 or 2 Year Program

This program will provide an introduction to the field of Sheet Metal Technology. Sheet Metal Technology is a broad career field that encompasses skills such as fabrication, layout and manufacturing, assembling, measuring, and repairing such things as ductwork, metal siding, metal flashings, and kitchen hoods. Working in this field may include: welding, soldering, drawing, riveting and forming metal. We will be learning three types of metal layouts; the three types are triangulation, parallel line and radial line development. There is a strong emphasis on employability skills, professionalism and leadership skills.

What does a Sheet Metal Worker do?

Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment, such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings.

Sheet Metal work may involve any of the following:

  • setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal
  • shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using a hammer
  • operating soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts
  • inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces

What does an entry level Sheet Metal Worker earn?

  • Commercial - $32.92 Hour + $16.35 Benefits
  • Residential - $17.63 + $6.90 Benefits

How to apply and register with the Sheet Metal Technology program:

  1. Visit West Sound Tech
  2. Meet with your counselor
  3. Complete an offical WST application, return it to WST and arrange a meeting with the Sheet Metal Technology instructor.
  4. Obtain confirmation of enrollment from your school counselor or the Skills Center.
